(Something oddly appropriate about the '12 GOP NH-Primary season commencing with robocalls. - promoted by Dean Barker)
Recent news reports that the House GOP is planning to use what Marc Ambinder called Sarah Palin's "enduring popularity with the Republican base" to help them raise money have filled me with dread. While I assume everyone on here joins me in the assumption that Wassila's favorite hockey mom will join the GOP field in 2012, I don't think I was prepared for it quite yet.
So imagine my chagrin when I spoke to a friend of mine who had, apparently, received a robosurvey call gauging the Sarah Palin love in New Hampshire. |
| The call, which she received on Monday, asked three questions.
1. Do you view Sarah Palin favorably? (y/n)
2. Does Sarah Palin's small gov't, pro-family views reflect your own? (y/n), and
3. Is it important that Sarah Palin be re-elected as governor of Alaska? (y/n)
My friend gave money to McCain in the 2000 primary, but hasn't supported a Republican since, voted in a GOP primary since, and has been a registered Democrat since at least '04. Demographically, she's interesting, however. A divorced woman in her 50s with a college degree.
While I suspect that this was really a fundraising appeal that was cut-off quickly by her answers of NO! NO! and NO!, I can't help but think that maybe Team Sarah is doing some on the cheap name ID, positive/negative polling. Consider yourself forewarned - GOP 2012 could well be starting. I just hope I never have to be in the same state with that creepy Rudy Guiliani again... |
