... she was anti-gay and not supportive of her gay son or stepson. I remember the Boston Globe ran a piece on it way back when.
I compared Swift to Palin in the sense that Swift was not competent as governor. Palin is in that same category, just more corrupt than Swift.

You know, the only problem with your theory is that it is utterly flawed. Besides that small fact, you are spot dead on. NHAC was and is about protecting New Hampshire's low tax advantage.
I am sure now that you had your gang play politics; there is very little chance the cap will lose. My phone hasn't stopped ringing in three days and I got folks wanting to start chapters all over the state, the only losers here in the short term was the democratic process, the taxpayers, and the eight alderman you convinced to hold hands and walk the plank.
I wanted it (and still may just get it) on the November ballot because I think it is the best opportunity to have the maximum amount of voters exposed to what I believe to be an important issue. I think people will pick lower spending over higher taxes all day long, even a good portion of Democrats. I had more good conversations with Democrats who are sick of constant tax increases.
Hey but you just keep ignoring the fact that 30% if those that signed the petition happened to be registered Democrats in Manchester. It was the same way in Rochester.
You and Kathy helped make NHAC a conservative icon; I guess i should be thanking you.
However I didn't blog here to get into an argument. As I said before respect the right of your side to have its opinion and I enjoy reading it. As long as Mr. Barker doesn't mind me chiming in from time to time (in my own name of course) I will continue.

Alex,
He may have lost by around 10,000, but he got around 17,000 more votes in 2004 than he did in 2006.
Presidential candidates have a bigger impact than straight ticketing did.

I just would like to state that I know, trust and respect both Peter and Garth, and the fact all three of us are Democrats is proof positive that we are the party of the bigger tent.
In the end, we can all agree to disagree amicably if nothing else. I have learned first hand many times that the internet can bring out the worst in people, and it's best to remember that in the midst of such a heated issue.

I only spoke up because what I witnessed really pissed me off.
That said, I can't guage how this will reverberate with just 2 months out. I prefer not to unwittingly dabble in what could result in scorched earth. Thus, I need to consult the Mystical 8-ball.
Please understand my hesitation.

Kathy Sullivan knows what she's talking about and has sufficient credentials (certainly more than me) to comment on the register of deeds race. Ben Clemons is definitely the best candidate on the ballot. If you're unsure about who to vote for in the Register of Deeds race, at least give Kathy and I the benefit of the doubt and vote for Ben Clemons.

The Word "Change" vs. the Meaning of Change and other ramblings

Doug,
The problem is that the word "Change" is a slogan these days.
Taken from the ideals of progressive like us and Barack who want to see our government change the days it operates for those who have the means (big business, the wealthy and corporate religion) and allow the average citizen to have a greater ability to succeed. This is the meaning of Change.
The Slogan "Change" picked up by the Republicans may seem like a change but it means taking a temporary rich person tax break and making it permanent, takes making the government where it's civil servants are required to make a political litmus test procedure instead of having those work who are qualified regardless of their politics and last bbut not least makes the Dupreme Court even more so by finding more Roberts Scalia clones.
Their meaning of change is actually finishing the slaughter on our freedoms started by Bushwhacker 43!
If that's the change McCain-Palin promise oh by the way, It would it be funny if McCain agrees with Palin's hubby and grants Alaska Independence and Alaska joins Opec?
OMG! I just thought up a new talking point!

Mr. Corriveau needs to get his facts straight

I have to assume that Garth Corriveau is referring to me and Kelleigh Domaingue when he rants about "dino" aldermen, since we supported placing the tax cap question on the November ballot.
Garth, you neeed to wake up. Of the twelve Democratic aldermen, I am the only one who is actively supporting and working for the Obama/Biden ticket. Further, at least one other ostensibly Democratic alderman, who you evidently view as a member in good standing of the party, has been running around town making disparaging remarks about Barack Obama's patriotism, dredging up the right wing shibboleths about the pledge of allegiance and the flag pin.
The votes on Tuesday and Friday were not about the merits of the tax cap. The real issue was whether we as elected officials were willing to support the democratic process. The proponents of the cap gathered the required number of signatures and filed all of the relevant paperwork in a timely manner. The only reason to refuse to move the question forward was a politically motivated desire to hold the vote at a sparsely attended special election.
Neither Kelleigh nor I plan on voting for the tax cap. We both believe that it is flawed and could have unintended repercussions. However, the decision on whether to adopt the cap belongs to the 115,000 residents of Manchester, not the 15 of us on the third floor of city hall. The Democratic Party and the progressive movement has long supported the rights of citizens to seek redress through referendum and initiative. We shouldn't betray that tradition simply because we disagree with the policy merits of a specific proposal. To do so is arrogant, undemocratic, and not in keeping with our party's best traditions.

The Qualities of Joe Biden

One of the great qualities of Joe Biden is that he's the type of guy either you'd meet and have a good discussion at the bar or you could have him over for a BBQ and he talks straight to you.
I'd liked him before he ran for president like him more now.
