BLUE HAMPSHIRE EXCLUSIVE

by: Dean Barker

Thu Jul 02, 2009 at 12:47:39 PM EDT

Dear State Lobbyists,

For the really very reasonable price range of $25,000 to $250,000 Blue Hampshire can provide exclusive access to its opinion-maker administrators and front-page writers.

(Hey, if it's good enough for the Very Serious Newspaper that employs the Very Serious Dana Milbank, then it's good enough for us.)

Of course, to be serious for a moment, no one batted an eye when Lauren Dorgan reported that WMUR's news anchor was working for the gambling lobby, so c'est la vie I guess.  Oops.  This is what I get for not owning a TeeVee.  Mr. Spradling was not employed at WMUR at the time.  Apologies to him.

To be fair to WMUR... (0.00 / 0)
... I am pretty sure that Spradling had already left the station and set up his media consulting operation before he was hired by the gambling crowd.

I have often wondered where "Fix it Now", the theoretically independent group pushing to turn Rockinghamn into a casino, gets their funding. They claim to have no financial interest in the casino, they aren't lobbyist, or a PAC, or a non-profit, as far as I can tell. So who funded them?

Fair again (4.00 / 2)
I just checked the web site; Fix It Now says it partnered with Millenium. Not lilke they tried to hide that they worked with Millenium.

"Partnered" is an interesting adjective (4.00 / 2)
I understand what it means in tennis, or a law firm, or a marriage. What does it mean between a for-profit casino operator and a whatever-it-is (but not a lobbyist, or a PAC, or a registered non-profit) like "Fix it Now".

Does it mean they are working together, or does it mean that the casino operator is providing most of the funding for an ostensibly independent group like "Fix it Now", whose only purpose is to promote giving the casino operator a license in NH?

Scott Spradling... (0.00 / 0)
Spradling left broadcasting and set up his lobbying firm sometime in 2008, long before he got the gambling contract,

Be fair (4.00 / 1)
Scott Spradling was not working with Millenium while he worked for WMUR. He went out on his own several months before.

But wait (0.00 / 0)
Just the business department, right Dean?

So it's on the up-and-up, because the influence is being sold by the sales team.

Glad we cleared that up!

I just saw the price sheet and I'm pissed. (4.00 / 2)
Standard: $25,000
No Elwood: $250,000

Where's my cut??
