Good News for Rochester /Bad News for Science

From NH Labor News:

Great News for New Hampshire and the City of Rochester. At least 400 new advanced manufacturing jobs in a 100 million dollar project. The best part of this news is that NH acquired this new manufacturing plant without Right To Work. As many of us have been saying over the last year, Right To Work has no effect on where a business chooses to locate. They did mention their thanks to the Governor and the Great Bay Community College.

Safrans is a global company that offered no complaints about burdensome regulation or the lack of a right to work law. Look for the NH House to take credit for this at 10, 9, 8……..
In the Union Leader well known scientist Drew Cline gives us his perspective on climate change, in response to some actual NH scientists who recently signed a statement on the impacts of climate in NH, and the extreme weather we’re seeing as a result.

Drew Cline:

The petition lists recent temperature and weather trends, such as warmer autumns and winters and more storms, and asserts such indisputably rigorous scientific assessments as: “These shifts in New Hampshire’s climate are clearly connected to changes in global climate.”

To respond with equal scientific authority: No, they’re not.

He goes on to refer to it as propaganda, and conveniently ignores the footnoted facts. Cline closes by urging voters to ignore it.

The Chamber of Commerce isn’t known for being a warm, fuzzy bastion of liberalism. Still, the Mt. Washington Valley Chamber has seen the impact of warmer winters on our local economy. Right now there isn’t enough snow for the snow machine crowd, and barely enough to ski on. As a result, they started the Climate Challenge Green Team Their mission statement:

The Mt. Washington Valley Green Team is a committee of the Mt. Washington Valley Preservation Association in affiliation with the Mt. Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce. The Green Team was developed to act as a catalyst to facilitate, educate, promote, and encourage sustainable green business practices that will lead to positive, measurable business, community, and environmental results.

The Mt. Washington Valley Climate Challenge was developed by the Chamber’s Green Team, with the support of the New Hampshire Carbon Challenge to engage Valley residents and businesses in adopting environmentally friendly practices and reducing their environmental impact in alignment with the aspects of the Chamber’s mission that seek to recognize and promote the natural beauty of the Mt. Washington Valley Area and to encourage economic growth consistent with maintenance of the Mt. Washington Valley Area’s natural beauty and community needs for economic opportunity.

Apparently they didn’t consult with Dr. Drew Cline.

The US is the only country in the world where the science of climate change is questioned. No matter who the Republicans nominate to be their candidate for president, we get an anti-science nitwit, determined to take us back to the 1800’s.

less care about, the environment.  After all, people who rely on superficial optics for all their information can’t be expected to believe what they can’t see.  Weather events are a nuisance. That’s all.

and Drew Cline in the same room?

The question I urge Cline and other deniers to join me in asking is; “What if I’m wrong?”

If I’m wrong, well, then I’ve been in favor of policies that support green jobs, reduce pollutants, keep our water and air clean, create renewable energy sources, and promote a much healthier planet.

The deniers have the impact of holding back this progress and making sure our window of opportunity is closing to correct some of the potentially catastrophic problems.

    What a tool.

will go down in history as one of the most dreadful political parties in the history of the nation, if not the world, and that’s just looking at the issue of climate change.  The costs they are imposing on our children and grandchildren are staggering.  We need to stop them NOW!  We are well on the way to making the planet uninhabitable for much of the human species.  All to make 1% of the population of this country even more obscenely rich.
